Have you ever been to a movie or reading a book, and within the first 5 minutes or the first 5 pages know exactly what the rest of it is going to be about? This has happened to me many times. The movie Mean Girls is a perfect example of this point. During the first five to ten minutes we meet the “plastics,” the most popular clique in school. Based on just this brief meeting, we can tell that the rest of the movie is going to be about Katie trying to fit in and destroy the plastics. In English class we’re reading Macbeth by William Shakespeare. We just finished reading the third scene of Act 1 today, but we already know what the rest of the play is going to be about. A main motif is how Macbeth is going to become King. Also, the three witches are going to be appearing a lot. While it is true that you can guess the plot from the very begining, Mean Girls is one of the greatest films of all time. As someone once said, it's not how the story ends, it's the journey to get there. Almost all movies consist of the same plot; there are only slight differences. You may know how the movie ends, but you can never guess the rediculous twists and turns the plot takes along the way. While the plot is simple, it is one of the funniest movies of all time.
